On December 8, NZEI Te Riu Roa delivered a submission to the Productivity Commission addressing the provision of ECE services in Aotearoa.
The Productivity Commission outlined their inquiry into the provision of a broad range of social services in June 2014. The outline specifically included Early Childhood Education in this inquiry. The goal of the inquiry is to ensure that these services are being provided in an efficient and effective way.
NZEI Te Riu Roa’s submission focuses on the definition of ‘effective’ in relation to ECE services; showing the importance of defining ‘effectiveness’ so it is synonymous with the quality of care. We know that there is a risk of the quality of care being undermined by the profit motive in for-profit early childhood centres.
