Parents, children and staff from Highbury House Early Learning Centre enjoyed speeches, art activities, song and cake at tyhe launch of the funding campaign on Auckland’s North Shore.
With National Leadership Group member Julia de Jong as M.C., the children welcomed everyone with waiata and we then heard a heartfelt speech from parent Kirsten Whylie. Kirsten talked about the impact that quality ECE had made on the life of her family and said such quality needed to be experienced by all families, no matter their neighbourhood. Centre Head Teacher Adele Hall then spoke, describing how her centre had exhausted all fundraising possibilities needed to augment the frozen funding. She urged us all to support the campaign to break the freeze and fund for qualified staff and good ratios.
The children and parents joined in an art activity, decorating large hearts that are the symbols of the ‘Every Child” campaign, before a specially baked and iced cake was cut and shared.
